James's mother was Sarah D *. The given name of his father is believed to be Benjamin Strain. He married Nancy A Hart on 17 Oct 1846 in Henderson County, TN. All of his children were born in Tennessee before he moved to Texas in 1877. His grave at the Springhill Cemetery is unmarked but it was verified as his resting place by one of his grandson's, James Wesley (Jim) Strain, before his death. There was at one time a wooden post as a marker and also a fence around the grave of James "Jimmy" Strain. His grandson, Clarence Lee Strain, is buried next to him, also in an unmarked grave
