Mark R. Canton, 39, of Winter Avenue, a postal worker and WARV-AM radio announcer, died March 31, 2001, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Pleasant Street, East Providence. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Snyzyk) Canton.
Born in Concord, N.H., a son of Raymond W. and Elizabeth A. (Hoey) Canton of Pawtucket, he had lived in New Hampshire before moving to Warwick 10 years ago. Mr. Canton had worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a bulk-mail unit specialist at the main post office in Providence, the Turnkey Branch, since 1986.
He had also been a radio announcer for the Warwick-based WARV Christian Radio, 1590 AM, since 1986.
A Coast Guard veteran, he was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Canton was a member of the Cranston Christian Fellowship.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a son, William J. Canton, and a daughter, Julia A. Canton, both at home; and two nieces, Amanda and Kimberly Rinn and a nephew, Kevin Rinn. He was the brother of the late William T. Canton.
The funeral was held from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a service at the Cranston Christian Fellowship, 1114 Scituate Ave., Cranston. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canton Children Scholarship Fund will be appreciated."
