Moses Abbott was born in Pleasant Township, Seneca, Ohio, December 1, 1837, to Lorenzo and Jennette (Sherwood) Abbott. He enlisted in the Civil War on August 12, 1861 into the 49th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company D. He was a Second Lieutenant, until he was honorably discharged in October, 1863. He re-enlisted, August 29, 1864, as Captain of 180th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company C. He was Captain of this unit until the end of the war. Mr. Abbott then served eight years as the township clerk. In 1880 he served as land appraiser. He married Miss Emily J. Beck on December 8, 1870. They are the parents of Charles M. and Pearl E. Abbott.
