Born and raised in Parkersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Mary Bukey Welch and Gilbert L. Welch. She met her husband of 63 years, Bob Bickel, at Parkersburg High School and Camp Robin Hood. She attended Ohio University until they were married on November 24, 1954. She was a member of the Junior League and a preschool teacher and community volunteer.
Bob and Diana loved the Bickel Cabin on beautiful Lake Lauzon in Canada. It was their summer home for the past 28 years and was part of their lives together since high school.
Diana was most proud of being a Marine wife who loved the Corps and raising a wonderful family that has blossomed. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have a been a source and recipient of unlimited love, joy and pride.
Diana is survived by her husband Bob, their two children, Bobby and Mary Ellen (Cross) and their spouses Marlise and Michael; five grandchildren, Kathleen (Cross) Wansor, David Cross, Caroline Cross, Allison Bickel and Mollie Bickel; two Great Grandchildren Henry Cross and James Wansor; and younger sister and best friend Emily Schneider and her husband Sid.
There will be a small service at the graveside at Riverview Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV at noon on Wednesday May 24.
