Obituary

Pocomoke City-Martha Anne Newton, 73, formerly of Broadway, VA, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Pocomoke City, which had become her home for the past 4 years.


Born June 20, 1942 in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Virginia Nash Harris.


Following graduation from high school she became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for more than twenty years at the Life Care Center in New Market, VA. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and collecting porcelain dolls.


Mrs. Newton is survived by one brother, Patrick Harris; three daughters and one son, T. Newton of Pocomoke City, T. Newton of Capon, VA, R. Earls and her husband L. of Timberville, VA and C. Higgins and her husband C. of Broadway, VA; nine grandchildren, E., T., J., T., S., M., C., D. and V.; eight great grandchildren; extended family members, T. and L. Ballard; her loving dog Rose and a host of nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; one sister; one daughter, Virginia Gulachok and one grandson, T.J. Newton.


A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by the Rev. William J. Porter, will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Holy Name Catholic Church, Market Street and Old Virginia Road, Pocomoke City, MD, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.
