Allen Melvin Aanenson died on May 19th, 2017, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND, due to lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Anthony Township on Thursday, April 7th, 1932, to Albertina (Opgrand) and Theodore Aanenson. And was baptized and confirmed at the East Marsh River Lutheran Church. Allen attended country school until the 8th grade. He was an Army man at heart and enlisted on January 21st, 1953 and served as a corporal in Thule, Greenland until he was honorably discharged on January 20th, 1955. During this time he earned his GED. Allen had a saying about Thule that he would have wanted to share: "Thule: Where there was a woman behind every tree. And there were no trees."

Allen then worked as a farm hand for Harold Hage and John Hellerud. The next chapter of Allen's life was blessed by his marriage to Virginia Ann Schultz in Jackson County at Immanuel Lutheran Church, witnessed by family and loved ones. Upon their return to Ada, Allen worked for Lawrence Keppler and eventually for Great Plains Lumber yard followed by his impressive 28 year stretch at the City of Ada Public Works Department, where he retired in October 1994. He was an excellent handyman and enjoyed creating things in his workshop, while indulging in the occasional cigarette. He also loved to play cards with his whole family and laughter filled the house!

Allen enjoyed traveling across the country with his wife Virginia, and with his family. Some of the places they traveled to included Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Boston, Washington D.C. and many "camping adventures" in Itasca State Park and the surrounding areas. He was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was proud to serve in Ada's V.F.W. Honor Guard.

He will be sorely missed by his wife, Virginia, and children: Kari, Molly, Eric and Anne, as well as his three grandchildren. He loved every single niece, nephew, first cousin, second cousin, co-worker and friend! He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Albert, Norman, Arthur, Tenny, Gladys, Millie and Elmer. God bless the memory of Allen Aanenson.

Funeral: 2:00PM, Friday, May 26, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 5-7PM with a prayer service at 6:30pm at the church.
