Don Foley Long was born on Thursday; March 2, 1933 in Iowa City; Johnson County, Iowa. He was the son of Cecil Samuel and Mary Frances (Gordon) Long. He married Beryl Spence on Saturday; January 12, 1963 in Garrison; Benton County, Iowa. Don was a purchasing agent for United Fire and Casualty Company for thirty-two years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on board the aircraft carrier's U.S.S. Bataan and the U.S.S Boxer as a radio operator. He served in the Central Intelligence Agency following his military service. Don loved photography and reading. He was an avid walker and loved to spend time with his family and friends. Don Foley Long, 74, passed away on Sunday; February 11, 2007 at Saint Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a brief illness. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Beryl, their two daughters, Denys Livingston (Larry) of Walford; Benton County, Iowa and Karen Mullnix (Brian) of Marengo; Iowa County, Iowa. Their son, Michael Long (Debbie) of Lynchburg; Lynchburg city County, Virginia. Their six grandsons, Ryan and Justin Livingston, Nicholas and Chad Long, Tyler Long and Jackson Mullnix. Their three step-grandchildren, Molly and John Sternik and Shelby Mullnix; and a great grandson, Zechariah Long. His parents and a son-in-law, Greg Knipper, preceded him in death. May they rest in peace. Memorial Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning; February 19, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. After cremation rites, inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion Hanford Post #5. Don's family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Luke's.
