Cumberland, Md. ---Noreen A. Murray, 86, of Cumberland passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Golden Living Center.

Born in Frostburg, MD, on April 13, 1931, Miss Murray was the daughter of the late James M. Murray and Alice (Winner) Murray.
She was also preceded in death by brothers: James J. Murray and William G. Murray; a sister: Pat Kauffman; a brother-in-law: Jack Kauffman; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Her family moved to Midland, Md. in 1936 where Noreen attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School. She graduated from Beall High School in 1949, and began her career with C&P Telephone as a switchboard operator and was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Noreen retired in 1986 with 36 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with people while volunteering at Sacred Heart Hospital. Noreen was an avid bowler on the women’s Thursday Night Fun League at the Bowler in LaVale where she rolled a “290” game in November of 1978. She enjoyed watching sports, debating politics, and caring for her home in North End. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish.

Noreen is survived by sisters-in-law: Bobbie (Boyle) Murray and Connie (Glass) Murray, as well as four nieces and four nephews.

Noreen was blessed with great neighbors, wonderful family, many friends, and especially her “Angel” Betty Moody who shared food, memories, and much support for which we are all very grateful. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend who will be sadly missed.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 4:00 P.M., to 7:00 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Patrick’s Church, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday May 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M.

Interment will be in Saint Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Frostburg, MD. Graveside services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends for Life Fund/Vocational Services Program, Friends Aware, 1601 Holland Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
