Vernon L. Ash, 527 East Wood ST., died Monday evening at Pershing Memorial Hospital. He was 78.

Visitation and services arrangements will be announced by the Wright Funeral Home, Brookfield.

Mr. Ash was born in southern Missouri Sept. 12, 1904, the son of George and Isabel (Brake) Ash. He was married April 25, 1927 to Kathern Smith.

He is survived by his wife, of the home, two daughters, Lillian Chiovarie, Chicago, Marilyn Oliver, Greencastle; a son Dwayne Ash, in the Phillipines; ten grandchildren, four step grand-children, four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Merle, four brothers, Albert, Lewis, Wesley and Hugh Ash, and a sister, Elsie Dean.

He was a member of the Caldwell Street Baptist Church and the family suggests memorials to the church.

He spent the most of his working life in Chicago, and since returning to Brookfield had been employed in custodial work.
