Pat Almond, 94, born and raised in Minden and a resident of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016 surrounded by family members. Pat was a Marine Raider in WWII and served in the South Pacific. He received multiple Purple Hearts, numerous wartime commendations, and relished the Raider conventions he attended regularly. After the war he worked for Ethyl, then retired as Postmaster from the Port Allen post office. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and honored volunteer for BR Green. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years Gloria, sister, Sara, daughters Jane Brown and Patti Almond, stepdaughters, Charleen Kling, Kathy Morgan, and Margaret Noullet, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Lafayette and Willie B, and son Jeff Almond. Funeral arrangements at Rabenhorst are pending. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Military Order of the Purple Heart, Red Stick Unit Chapter 177.
