Son of Robert Washington, the son of Townshend Washington and Elizabeth Lund, and Alice Strother.

Married Sarah (Washington) Harper, daughter of John and Constant (Constantia) Washington, widow of Robert Harper (d.1782) of Alexandria, on May 16, 1788, Westmoreland County, VA.

Thomas Washington entered the army of the Revolution at the age of 19 as a lieutenant in Col. Grayson's regiment, Capt. Moore's Company, of Alexandria, and was at the Battles of Germantown and Monmouth.

His father gave him nearly all his estate, and Thomas Washington left nearly all of his to his wife.
