Lt. John Taylor of VA was the 7th son of Col. George Taylor & Rachel Gibson Taylor. He was one of the "Ten Taylor Sons" to serve in the American Revolution.

He was 1st cousin 1x removed to both Pres. James Madison, Jr. & Pres. Zachary Taylor.

"Lieutenant JOHN TAYLOR in the Virginia Navy. Captured by the British and died a prisoner at New York in the "Jersey" Prison. Jersey Prison was a ship anchored in the New York harbor. Was serving aboard the ship " Tartar" when captured. JOHN, of Orange Co. (born Jan. 27, 1751, seventh son of George Taylor of Orange Co.). Midshipman, Aug. 13, 1777; promoted lt. Aug. 13, 1777; captured by the British, and died in the old Jersey prison ship at New York, Jan. 6, 1781. Served under his brother, Capt. Richard Taylor."
