ROBERT DAVIS CROMWELL (Age 97)
Passed away from congestive heart failure on April 19, 2017, at his home at Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield, VA.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia Rainey Cromwell; daughter, Nancy Scott, and son, James (Kathleen Nolan); grandchildren Casey, Mary Alice, Robert, and Caroline; and great-granddaughter, Meredith.
A proud "Buckeye" born in Amherst, OH, Bob earned a Metallurgical Engineering degree from Ohio State University. After college he took up his commission in the US Navy, serving from 1943-46 in Tarawa and Ulithi in the South Pacific. Following WWII Bob was employed in testing and quality assurance positions in Dahlgren, VA; London, England; Columbus, Ohio; Pittsfield, MA; and Washington, DC where he was a Manager of Quality Assurance for the Apollo and Space Shuttle Programs at NASA from 1963-1979.
Bob was an active community volunteer at Greenspring and with Toastmasters International, Big Brothers, and the Legg-Mason Tennis Tournament where he was Volunteer Chair for several years.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
