MRS. SARAH O. GURNSEY

Mrs. Sarah O. Gurnsey died suddenly at the home of her son, Charles Gurnsey, in the town of Ward, Friday evening, July 14th.
Mrs. Gurnsey was the daughter of James and Mariah Murdock and was born in Yates County, seventy-three years ago. She was married to Robert Gurnsey about 1858. Besides in New York she had lived in Pennsylvania and Nebraska, the most of the last thirty-five years of her life being spent in the last named state. Mr. Gurnsey died twenty years past. To Mr. and Mrs. Gurnsey were born four sons, William, Eugene and Fred of Nebraska, and Charles who has lately purchased and moved onto the West farm between the Five Corners and Phillips Creek and with whom Mrs. Gurnsey has lived since the death of her husband. Besides her sons she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Morgan of Gorham, Ontario County, and Mrs. William Poole of Benton Centre, Yates County.
In early life she made a profession of religion and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a faithful and loving mother, much attached to her children. Between her and her son Charles and his wife there had grown to be a mutual dependence, as well as affection.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor William L. Burdick, were held at the house Sunday afternoon and burial took place in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
