James Carl (J.C.) Hebert, February 20, 1926 – May 1, 2017. "So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. -- John 16:22." J. C. passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House at 6:18 PM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the age of 91, with one of his daughters by his side. He was a resident of Port Allen, La. for 67 years, and born to Sebastian Alcee and Irene Marie Laurent Hebert on February 20, 1926 at St. Louis Plantation in Plaquemine, La. He was a WWII veteran serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Ocean Theater. He was sent to participate in the invasion of Saipan from mid-June till July of 1944. The landing was made in a Higgins Boat. From there he took part in the invasion of Tinian from mid-July till the 1st of August 1944. After a brief reprieve he was sent to Okinawa on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945. This was the largest Pacific landing in the war. He remained there until the summer of 1945. After Japan surrendered, J.C. took part in the occupation of Japan. He was released to come home in 1946. He went to work for Nadler Foundry as a machinist, then on to Ethyl Corporation. He retired from Ethyl Corporation in 1985 as Machine Shop Foreman with 40 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and had been a member of American Legion Post 160 for 54 years, and was also a current member of the West Side Honor Guard, serving at numerous military funerals, which he was so proud to be a part of. He is a past member Knights of Columbus – Holy Family Port Allen Council #2875; past member and past Commodore WBR Sheriff's Flotilla; former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 38 – Port Allen. Visitation will be on Friday, May 5, at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen from 5 pm to 9 pm. Visitation will resume Saturday, May 6 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port Allen from 8 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am, celebrated by the Rev. David Allen. Interment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by six children, Marian H. Cuevas and husband Kenny, Loganville, Ga.; Michael C. Hebert, Paulina; James O. (Jimmy) Hebert and wife Donna, Port Allen; Lisa H. Sizemore and husband Kenny, Church Point; Joan H. Louque and husband Kent, Port Allen; Gregory C. Hebert and wife Hope, Port Allen. His 17 grandchildren are Dana C. Rogers, Stephanie C. Presley and Theresa L. Cuevas, Michelle H. Marcantel, Mandy H. Landry, and Michael C. Hebert Jr.; Amy H. Henderson and Adam C. Hebert, Renee S. Lansdown, Cinnamon S. Broussard and Jeffrey W. Sizemore, Brandi L. Louque, Bridget L. Matherne, Brooke L. Troxclair and Julie M. Louque, Kayla B. Hebert and Karli R. Hebert. His 27 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Caitlin Rogers, Evan and Aiden Presley, A.J. and Hailey Parrish, Hanna, Austin and Emily Marcantel, Madeline, Alaina, Nathan and Luke Landry, Olivia and Owen Hebert; Grayson James Hebert, Cole, Cayden, and Sterling Landsdown, Kyle Broussard, Eden and Reese Sizemore, Kylah and Kayleigh Louque, Trey and Max Matherne, and Cori Troxclair. Also surviving him are his dear sisters, Herd H. Schexnaildre, Beulah H. Ferachi and Shirley H. Rivet of Plaquemine and one brother, Floyd A. Hebert also of Plaquemine. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly Loupe Hebert; his parents, Alcee and Irene, his brothers, Nolan L., Alcee J. (Pupp), Morris J. and Fabian F. Hebert.
