Marion Rowland Hoff, Jr 76, of Brady died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in a Brownwood nursing home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born Jan. 10, 1937, to M. R. Hoff, Sr. and Mackey Agnes Wood Hoff in Charleston, W.V. Although born in Charleston, he spent his early years moving to secret locations in the United States while his father was a chemist on the Manhattan Project. In 1945, when his father had completed his contribution to World War II, the family moved to Orange, which Rowland considered his home. Rowland was a 1962 graduate of Texas A&M and always an Aggie at heart. By profession, Rowland was VP of Finance for a leading manufacturer. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years. A wonderful husband, father, step-father and grandfather; he loved his family. His other loves were traveling in the motorhome, volleyball, tennis, performing in community theater and restoring old cars. Rowland is survived by his wife, Ann Hoff; his sons, David (Linda) Hoff of Fate, and Terry Hoff of Buda; step-children, Deanna (Steve) Byrd of Brady, Dean Christy, Jr. of Voca and Donna (Robert) Fischer of Veribest; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Tiffany Hoff of Fate, Kassidy and Tyson Hoff of Buda, Dash and Destiny Byrd of Brady, Trey Christy of Chicago, Ill., Landon (Ashley) Fischer of Royce City, and Robynn (Matt) Jones of Bronte; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Christy of Voca and his two special great-granddaughters, Zoey and Adalie. Other survivors include Peggy McConnell of Lockhart, the mother of his sons; brother-in-law, Col. Ray (Michealeen) Tolar of Glen Rose, and sister-in-law Harriet Hoff of Denton. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; his son, Marion Rowland Hoff III; sister, Katherine Tolar; brother, Richard Hoff and granddaughter, Dymann Christy. Rowland was dearly loved and will be missed by all. A Remembrance of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Holiday Inn Meeting Room.
