James William Jenkins, 74, of Hewett passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Boone Memorial Hospital, Madison.

He was born November 1, 1942 at Scarbro, WV to the late James Christian and Garnet Prather Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Rose Grindstaff and Sharon Hancock; and brother, Charles “Jack” Jenkins.

He was an Army veteran and a retired coal miner. He was a member of UMWA, National Barrell Horse Association, American Legion and National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Mike (Karen) Jenkins of Scarbro; daughters, Lisa (Ray) Abbott of Oak Hill and Leslie Jenkins (Matt Wagner) of Clarksburg; stepson, Michael (Cynthia) Loftis of Gordon; grandchildren, Mike Jenkins, Susan Sandoval, Coraline Wagner and Shelby Wolfe; step-grandchildren, Mike Loftis and Brandon Loftis; great-grandchildren, Braden Wolfe and Emma Wolfe.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Chuck Gillispie officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
