DEATH OF F. O. BERTRAND

Well Known Citizen and ex-Confederate Passed Away Yesterday at Ripe Old Age of 80 Years

Another on of those stalwart men who a half century ago followed the leadership of Stonewall Jackson and other valiant leaders of the confederacy over the sanguinary battlefields fighting the great fight for the Lost Cause and being in the ticket of the fight wherever the Stars and Bars was carried by an intrepid and fearless color bearer has answered the last roll call, stood at "attention" before the portals of the eternal home and entered within to join the bivouac of his comrades in the Great Encampment along the shores of the Eternal camp
The old soldier who has succumbed to the infirmities of age and the ravages of a protracted malady was F. O. Bertrand who closed his eyes in the sweet repose yesterday forenoon at 11 o'clock at his home 1618 Guatemozin Street. For quite a long time his failing health had incapacitated him for manual labor Deceased was a native of Texas, being born in Houston on July 11, 1835 and had recently passed the milepost that made him an octogenarian. For over twenty years he made his home in Laredo and was a man who was liked and respected by all. He leaves three daughters Mrs W. M. Chase of this city, Mrs R. Fitzsimmons and Mrs R. C. Fitzgerald of Houston and one son F. B. Bertrand of this city, besides thirty five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. All these have the sympathy of many friends in their loss.
The funeral took place this morning at 10 o'clock with services at the home and grave conducted by Rev. Woods of the Baptist church and Rev. Dunn of the Methodist church.
