Hazel Kathleen Montgomery
Hazel, age 88, of Pembroke, passed away Friday, April 28th after an extended illness at Hickory Hill Retirement at Burkeville, VA. She was born in Wolfcreek, Monroe Co., WV, daughter of the late Homer Lucien and Eunice Grace Burdette Walkup. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy and brothers Wayne and Lucien. She is survived by her children: Mike (Nancy) Nashville, TN; Kim Kohman (Dave) Chesterfield, VA; John (Sharie) Chapel Hill, NC; and Stan of Pembroke, VA; her grandchildren: Matt, Katie, Ryan, Patrick, Ian and her brother LG.
Hazel began her working career at Celanese and retired from Pembroke Telephone Cooperative after many years of service. She was also a member and longtime secretary-treasurer of Pembroke United Methodist Church. She loved to read and delighted in the accomplishments of her grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Kendall Funeral Home, Pembroke, on Saturday, May 6th from 1 until 2:30 pm, followed by a service in the chapel. Interment will be at Birchlawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pembroke United Methodist Church. We would also like to thank Hickory Hill Retirement Community and Hospice of Virginia for the love and special care they showed Hazel during her final years. The Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St in Pembroke is in charge of the arrangement.
