As a young man, Ross loved to hunt and fish. Later the hobbies were replaced by woodworking and other crafts. He married Rhea Pettingill November 29, 1934. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. He earned a living farming until 1964 when he and Rhea purchased the Lakeside Resort in Island Park. The son of William Henry Covington and Rosabell Stoker Covington, he completed his earthly life at the home of his daughter in Idaho Falls.

He is survived by his daughters Saundra Covington Craft Miller (Ray) and Judy Covington Carter; sister Dorothy Asay (Doug); 10 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. His wife, Rhea, daughter, NaDeane Covington Jensen Twitchell; siblings Beatrice Parkin, Edward Covington, Edgar Covington, Vern Covington June Widdison Parkinson, and Elva Covington Johnson predeceased Ross.
