Second Coal Gas Victim Dies Here Monday Night

The second victim of coal gas asphyxiation in an apartment at 1334 Pennsylvania avenue, between Thursday night and Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Hattie Kasten, aged 59, died at St. Nicholas hospital at 10 p.m., Monday.

Her son-in-law, Otto Jaeger, died late Saturday Night, as a result of having been subjected to the gas fumes, and her daughter is still in St. Nicholas hospital suffering from the effects of the gas, but she is believed to be out of danger

Mrs. Kasten was born in Germany on Feb. 9, 1874, and came to this country with her parents when she was a child. The family settled in Fond du Lac, where they lived a year or two, after which they came to Sheboygan. She was married to Louis Kasten of this city thirty-five years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jaeger; a son, William, Sheboygan; a step-daughter; Lucille Brink of Sheboygan Falls, two sisters, Mrs. Frances Custer of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Theresa Tautges of Birnamwood, Wis., six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her husband and one son preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Ramm Funeral Home, and burial will be made in Wildwood cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home from 2 p.m., Wednesday, until the time of the service.
