Letha A. Martens, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in the Good Neighbor Home, after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, New Life Assembly of God Church, by the Rev. Merlyn Farrand. Burial: Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester, and one hour before services Friday at the church.
Letha Martens was born April 17, 1912, in rural Oneida, Iowa, the daughter of Marion E. & Carrie Abigail (Smith) Hansel.
She graduated from the Manchester High School.
Letha married Albert Nelson(Charles) Wink in Galena, Ill. The couple later divorced NOV1947.
On Aug. 5, 1950, Letha married Donald David Martens in Galena, Ill. The couple lived in Manchester, Iowa. Donald died July 29, 1973.
Letha is survived by her two children, Virginia and husband John Gaffney of Lamont, Iowa, and Judy A. Wink of Manchester, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Wink of Bullhead, Ariz.
Letha was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Albert Wink and Donald D. Martens; a son, Everett Wink; a stepgrandson, John Joseph Gillis; four brothers, Aldon, Floyd, Ted and Melvin Hansel; and three sisters, Lurahamah "Hammie" Brown, Zella Parson and Opal Downs.
