He was a farmer until he purchased the Swan Tavern in Kenilworth, Coventry Township, in Chester County. The tavern license shows owned the business and then later he rented from an owner after he did not renew the mortgage on the building.
After he died in about 1775, Mary his wife and son Jacob petitioned for the license and ran the tavern for several more years. In about 1787 the license was taken over by Abraham and Stephen Sink, brothers to Jacob Sink. It was shut down by the end of the century and the Swann Inn today is an apartment building.
