Rowena C. Allen, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 14, 1921, to Arthur and Cleora (Conallis) Hoggatt in Sparks, Okla.

She married Edward William Allen on April 20, 1942, in El Reno, Okla. He survives.

She graduated from Prague, Okla. High School.

She worked for Gray and Rosel, Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital medical records department and Dr. Ward.

She was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church.

She was a member of the China Painting Club. She enjoyed making afghans and was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.

Survivors also include one son, James Allen and wife, Anna, Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Sue Higgs and husband, Carl, Ulysses; five grandchildren, Sherry Annis and husband, Beaty, Ulysses, Steve Higgs and wife, Bobbi, Ulysses, Chad Allen, Kansas City, Shannon Robbins and husband, John, of Dallas, and Ryan Allen, Emporia; six great-grandchildren, Brynden, Tate, Cole, Cade, Shae and Jake; one sister, Martha Fischer, Casper, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Elmer, Joe and an infant brother; one sister, Oletta; and a granddaughter, Shelley.

* Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Dennis H. Livingston presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.
