Ethel J. Landreth, age 95 of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday evening, April 22, 2017 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Ethel Jeannette (Burman) Landreth was born on February 12, 1922 in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Edna Goldie (Jackson) Burman. Ethel grew up on the family farm. She attended the Waverly school system, graduating from Waverly High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Luvern R. Luloff, who passed away in 1977. Ethel and Luvern were blessed with four children: Sylvia, Alan, Marsha and James.

Ethel was known as a very caring person. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Princeton, IL and, most currently, First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She enjoyed raising her family and playing and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She never missed a band concert, choral concert, sporting event or recital. Being with her family made her the happiest.

Ethel had been a resident at Wellington Place for six years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. K. Martin and her husband, Morton L Landreth; her three brothers, Merwin, George and John Burman; and her sister, Dorothy Repp.

Ethel is survived by her four children: Sylvia (Richard) Steffen of Jewell, IA, Alan (Chris) Luloff of Cary, IL, Marsha (Robert) St. John of Cleveland, TN and James (Lynn) Luloff of Decorah, IA; eight grandchildren: Angela (Steve) Mitchell of Melcher, IA, Lisa (Siva Nadarajah) Steffen of Montreal, Canada, Joe St. John (significant other, Katie VanCleave) of Chattanooga, TN, Laura (Justin) Kossak of Greenview, IL, Julie Luloff of Verona, WI, Sarah Luloff (fiancé, Kyle Lilly) of St. Louis Park, MN, Larisa Luloff of Cary, IL and Alex Luloff of Cary, IL; great-grandchildren: Evan Mitchell (fiancée, Brittney Leemon) of Eugene, OR, Morgan Mitchell of Ankeny, IA, Alex Mitchell of Melcher, IA, Surya and Vidhya Nadarajah of Montreal and Kara Kossak of Greenview, IL; her sister, IvaMae Roettjer of Seward, NE; one sister-in-law, Helen Burman of Waverly, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. Burial will be in Rock Lily Cemetery in Winslow, Illinois late Monday afternoon.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church.
