It Was One of Our Boys.
The Thomas W. Petro, of the 4th United States infantry, reported dead of dysentery by Gen. Otis at Manila, is a Montgomery county boy of near Darlington. he was a fine young man and his friends here are pained to hear of his death.

A. Dead Soldier
Margaret Petro on Thursday received a message from San Francisco, stating that the body of Thomas W. Petro, a private in the 4th U. S., infantry had been shipped to her here for burial. Petro is the Montgomery county soldier who died some time ago of disease in a Manila hospital. He will be buried here doubtless with military honors.

Thomas Petro, who died at Manila July 5, 1899, and a member of Co. M, F. W. S. Infantry, was born in this county near Linden, where he lived all his life. He was the youngest son of Leonard and Margaret Petro, his father dying when he was quite small. He was compelled to make his own living early in his life. He grew to manhood as most other boys do—sometimes good and sometimes bad, making his home among his relatives until his enlistment. Dec. 17, 1898. He died at the age of 25 years and 10 months and was buried in the family lot at Linden.
