Joe was the son of Nancy “Curly” (Caton) Wilhelm, Avilton and the late Leonard “Junior” Wilhelm.

He was a 1975 graduate of Northern High School, where he played football for the Northern Huskies. He married the love of his life, Shari in 1979. He was a logger, by trade, and spent most of his life working on the family farm. He started going to the woods with his Dad when he was very young and worked alongside his brother almost all of his life. He loved cutting the big trees and rarely took a day off. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, and could often be found cheering on his team with his wife. He looked forward to deer season each year, when he took what was often his only vacation of the year. Joe never hesitated to help a friend or neighbor in need. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he never missed the chance to spend time with them. Though they are young, they will never forget lasting impressions of their “Pappy Joe” left on their hearts.
