Joel Roger Adams
1956 – 2017

Our wonderful husband, father, and brother, Joel Roger Adams, was also known as Roger from his younger years. He was also known as Precious, as he was called by his wife; Dad, by his children; and Grandpa, by his beloved grandchildren. He was the most adored, loving, loyal, courageous, and hardworking man any family could ever have.

Joel's life began on September 15, 1956, second oldest of seven children. He was born in Columbus, Ohio. When Joel was very young, he moved from Ohio to Arizona, and from Arizona to California. His family finally settled in Riverdale, California, where he attended junior high and high school. Joel started off young working on oil rigs. This resulted in a career working in the oil industry and ending with a company he loved, Kern Oil Refinery, where he worked for over 30 years.

Joel met the absolute love of his life, Rosa Borba, through his sister Tammy in 1979, in Riverdale, California. Rosa had three small children, a son, Elliott, and two daughters, LaMonica and Denise, whom he fell in love with instantly! He himself was easy to fall for, with his good looks, permed hair, and a shyness that was captivating. Rosa and Joel married on August 21, 1982, in Hanford, California.

In 1983 they welcomed a baby girl, Joy, and then shortly after moved to Bakersfield, California, where they raised their four children. Joel had the best sense of humor, was easily pranked, and was known to have the best quotes and sayings. That same sense of humor and funny, loving, and devoted character came through with his counsel and love to his children, ten grandsons, and three granddaughters.

He absolutely loved to share God’s health message and the benefits of exercise with all he knew. He adored spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, until we all meet again.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Adams; his son, Elliott Chester and wife Wendy; his daughter, LaMonica and husband Gene Cooks; his daughter, Denise and husband Alex Wallace; his daughter, Joy and husband Jesse Walla; granddaughters, J'Nise, Jordyn, Azzlyn; and grandsons, Elyjah, Alex, Ethan, Axavier, Ezrah, Azariah, Asa, Jonah, Jean Paul, and Nolan.

Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93313, on Thursday, April 27th, at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service and reception at Hillcrest Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2600 Kenwood Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306, at 3 p.m. All are welcome.
