Lois Lundquist Merrill lost her brief but courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, April 20, 2017. She passed peacefully, in her home, surrounded by family.
She was born on January 31, 1929 in Pleasant View, Idaho (near Malad) to Charles Julius Lundquist and Annie Jenkins Lundquist. She grew up in a family of nine children, one of which was her twin brother Louis. She moved to Blackfoot in her sophomore year of high school and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1947.
Lois married her sweetheart, Israel “Is” Merrill on May 9, 1948. He had attended Blackfoot’s rival high school, Moreland. It was all very Romeo and Juliettesque. Together they raised five beautiful, talented and funny children. Lois held a variety of jobs throughout her life including clerk at M&H Kings, flower arranger at May’s Flowers, school bus driver, and potato sorter in Bingham County’s annual harvest, but many people remember her from the many years spent behind the counter at Dale’s Jewelry. All of this was done while raising her children and providing tireless support which allowed Israel to serve in the Idaho legislature for two decades.
She is survived by her children Connie (Ed) Jamison, Dana (Terry), Danny (Tammy), Lynette, and Brian (Dena). She is also survived by ten grandchildren Amy (Brady) Brower, Matthew (Susanne) Jamison, Calob Merrill, R.D. (Aimee) Wright, Cy (Chelsea) Merrill, Taylor Merrill, Shelby Merrill, Dylan Merrill, Lyken Merrill, and Caden Merrill, and nine great-grandchildren: Stella, Henry, Elliot, Anna, Jorie, Aidan, Harper, Beau and Ridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings: Glen, Norma, Erma, Carl, Ted, Betty, her twin Louis, Stella, and a grandson, Chris Tucker.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 and for one hour prior to the services on Friday. Interment will follow at the Moreland Cemetery.
