Melinda Caroline Oldham married Willis Selman on Sept. 17,1839 in Carrol County, Mississippi.
She and Willis were in Texas by 1848 and the family is found in the Cherokee County, Texas census records for 1850, 1860 and 1870.
Willis and Melinda Caroline had eight (8) children

A. William Wallace Selman – born 1840 in Mississippi.

B. Thomas Benton Selman – born July 18, 1842 in Hinds County, Mississippi. He was killed while serving in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

C. Marian Lucetta Selman – March 25, 1844 – January 29, 1845. She died in Hinds County, Mississippi and was buried 3 ½ miles South of Raymond, Miss. on the Utica Roads.

D. Cornelia Caroline (Selman) Williams – born in Mississippi on Jan 21, 1846 and died in Texas on March 13, 1896.
She married William Malone Williams in January 1861.

E. Robert Willis Selman – born April 26, 1848-Feb 17, 1860 in Cherokee County, Texas.

F. James Volivar Selman – born July 6, 1850 in Cherokee County. He married Georgia A. Evans in 1879 (she was a granddaughter of Nancy (Selman) & Evan Evans). James V. Selman died March 5, 1900 and was buried in the Selman-Roark Cemetery in Alto, Texas. Georgia was a daughter of Evan Greenlee Evans (son of Evan and Nancy (Selman) Evans and Leons (Bowers) Evans.

G. Oliver Green Selman was born on March 14, 1853 in Cherokee County, Texas. He died in Rendon, Tx on May 7, 1910. He married Susie Anna Taylor on June 21, 1877 in Cherokee County. Susie was born in Greenville, Alabama on April 22, 1861 and was the daughter of Robert and Nancy Taylor. He was a Farmer. They moved from Cherokee County to south Tarrant County sometime between 1880 and 1882 to a place about 2 ½ miles southeast of Kennedale, Texas.

H. Benjamin Franklin Selman was born Feb 14, 1855 in Cherokee County, Tx. He ded in Rendon, Tx July 14, 1921. He married Mattie Boggs (Nov 2, 1852 – Jan 25, 1902) on October 16, 1873 in Cherokee County. He then married Emmit (Sept 9, 1863 – July 14, 1909) and then Nanny Francis Harper, daughter of H.J. Harper. He had eight (8) children by the first wife. No children by the 2nd wife. Had three (3) by the third wife.
