Mrs. W. A. Holland
After a lingering and distressing illness Mrs. (Eliza J.) Holland, the beloved wife of Mr. W. A. Holland, owner and editor of the Eminence Constitutionalist, passed to the eternal home of the blessed, on Sunday morning, August 10, 1902, at 4:15 o'clock. Mrs. Holland was a most exemplary woman.
Her name before marriage was Miss Sallie A. VanNuys, and she was born December 1, 1838, near Campbellsburg, in Henry County. Her parents having moved to Louisville, she was married to Mr. Holland in that city, November 29, 1854. The husband survives, aged about 74 years, together with eight children: Edward, G. Allison, Guy, Harold, Clarence and Claud, Mrs. Mattie Stephenson and Mrs. Cassity, wife of Dr. J. C. Cassity. Except for Edward, Clarence and Claud, who live in Texas, all the children live in Eminence.
The deceased had been a life long member of the Christian Church. She was unostentatious in her religion, but had pronounced convictions, associated with deep reverence for things holy.
Funeral services were held at the church in Eminence, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, with a large attendance of sympathizing friends. Elder C. L. Garrison, former pastor, read the 14th chapter of John; Prof. W. S. Giltner led in prayer, and Rev. D. N. Porter, a life long friend of the family, made a few appropriate remarks dealing with the life and character of the good mother and wife.
