Caledonia - - Death of Alexander J. Ralston
Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Alex. J. Ralston, one of the leading and most prominent residents of Caledonia, passed into rest. Deceased suffered from a paralytic shock in September, and a second attack last week was the cause of death. He was born in Argyleshire Scotland, 64 years ago and came to Canada in 1848 and seven years later to Caledonia, where he has since resided. He was one of the elders of the Willow Creek Presbyterian church, a position which he filled with great faithfulness until some years ago when his mental faculties began to wane. His wife and six children survive, the latter are John D. Ralston, of Rockford, George, who lived on the homestead, Mrs. Matthew Harvey, Rockford, Mrs. Watterson, Bristol, Ia., Mrs. Alex. Ferguson, of Caledonia, and Miss Mary, who lived with her parents. He leaves a farm of 160 acres near Caledonia, and has 80 acres right in the village. He was a worthy man and his memory will live in the hearts of his friends. The funeral occurs at one o'clock Friday.
