Gary L. Wilson, 76, of 12854 Alan Seeger Road, Petersburg, PA 16669, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, April 16, 2017 at JC Blair Hospital in Huntingdon, Pa.

Born May 13, 1940 in McAlevy’s Fort. He was a son of the late, Theodore (Bubby) L. Wilson and Bernice C. (Bracken) Wilson. He was united in marriage on June 27, 1964 to Patricia R. (Smith) Wilson. Mrs. Wilson resides at their home.

He is survived by his children: Chris L. Wilson, Scott A. Wilson, Linda K. Wilson and Diane L. Wilson Yutzy and husband, Noah S. Yutzy; grandchildren: Derek A. Wilson, Pittsburgh, Taylor N. Wilson, Huntingdon, Mackenzie N. Wilson, Huntingdon, Morgan E. Wilson, McAlevy’s Fort, Madison J. Wilson, Huntingdon, and Ian S. Yutzy, McAlevy’s Fort.

He was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Wilson Bagshaw and Mary Joyce Wilson Joll and a brother, Galen L. Wilson.

Gary lived in the McAlevy’s Fort Area all his life. To all his family and friends he was known as “Dad,” “Pap” or “Gab.”

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He loved his kids and helped with their building projects, race cars, or whatever they were involved in. When the grandkids came, he loved each and every one, always teasing and joking and always willing to help them in whatever they were doing. He was respected by all the people he came in contact with over the years and liked to sit and talk to anyone who stopped in.

He attended grade school at McAlevy’s Fort and went to Huntingdon High School grades nine – 12.

He graduated in 1958 from Huntingdon High School.

He joined the Army on Oct. 17, 1960 until October 1962 and went to Fort Dix for basic training. Most of his service time was in New Orleans, La. where he was a medical specialist.

Following high school, he worked for Albert “Snapper” Miller and Si Wilson on their sawmills.

He worked for DCNR from 1964-66.

Lastly, he worked at New Holland in Belleville from May 6, 1966 until his retirement on April 1, 1998.

He was elected in November 1987 to be a supervisor for Jackson Township and served the township for over 20 years.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church at McAlevy’s Fort, Pa.; McVeytown Lodge No. 376 McVeytown, Pa. from Sept. 4 1974 to 2017; and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Centre Forest No. 129, State College, Pa. from 1978 to 2017.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA.

The McAlevy’s Fort Lion’s Club was formed on June 1, 1987 and he became a charter member and president. He was a member of the club until 2001 when it closed.

He was a Boy Scout Leader in the ’70s.

He was a member of Shaver’s Creek Valley Fire Company in the late ’60s until 1972 when he and several other members from McAlevy’s Fort area started the Stone Creek Valley Fire Co. in 1972. He was a charter and lifetime member of Stone Creek Valley Fire Co. He was also a charter member of the Stone Creek Valley Fire Company Fire Police and was Fire Police Captain for many years until health reasons had him stop.

He was an outdoor person and loved hunting and fishing and in his younger years took many trips to Maine and New Hampshire and to Lewes Bay, Delaware. He always said the outdoors was his church and he meditated with God in the forest.

His funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in McAlevy’s Fort, and will be officiated by Pastor Evelyn Wald. His family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at a later time at St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
