Born February 3, 1923, in Nodaway County, he was the son of the late Alfred and Nelie Hazelrig Appleby. He was a graduate of Maryville, Missouri High School.
Eugene and Mary Ruth Brown were united in marriage on March 24, 1945, in Maryville.
Prior to retirement Eugene operated Allied Moving Vans for over 40 years. He was a member of the First United Church and the Elk's Lodge, both in Maryville.
Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Paula Damien Appleby, brother Charles B. Appleby and half-brothers Ed Manley and Oliver Manley.
Eugene is survived by his wife Mary Ruth Appleby of the home in Chillicothe, daughter, Candice (Ed) Quillen, Chillicothe; two grandchildren: Ed C. (Shelley) Quillen II, Forest Lake, MN and Tiffany (Brice) Walker, Chillicothe; 3 great- grandchildren: Kyra Quillen, Forest Lake and Clayton and Claire Walker, Chillicothe, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, MO, followed by a 2:30 PM Graveside Service at Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.
