Ruel was born in Hickory, NC, son of the late Ramond P. and Ida Rosella Eckard Baumgarner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Prather Baumgarner, son, Wayne Allen Baumgarner, Sr., daughter, Baby Ester, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Ruel was a life long member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, serving as Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. He was a philanthropist, contributing to many Christian organizations. Ruel was a veteran of World War II serving the Army Air Force. He loved his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon, Monday, April 17, 2017 at Love Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Mike Criswell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Rites rendered by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
