Lawrence Cochran

Son of William Riley and Frances Orpha Sparling Cochran. His sisters are Ruby Ilene and Opal Ferrell Cochran. He married first wife in spring of 1942 and they had a daughter, Sandra Jean. He later married Wilma Doris Clagg and their children are Donald Kim, Rickey Dean, Rodney Gale, and Theressa Ferrell Cochran.

Lawrence D. Cochran, 81, of rural Dieterich died at 11:28 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Dieterich, with burial in Trexler Cemetery, rural Newton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or the donor's choice.

Mr. Cochran was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Jasper County, the son of W. R. and Orpha Sparling Cochran. He married Wilma Clagg in 1948.

He was a retired farmer, carpenter and Illinois Dept. of Transportation employee; was a member of the Effingham American Legion post, and was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, sons, Don (wife, Doris) Rick (wife, Peg), both of Wheeler, Rodney (wife, Marsha) of Newton, daughter, Theressa Wagner of Dieterich, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

PARATROOPER IN THE AIRBORNE DIVISION. ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON DECEMBER 9, 1944 AND DISCHARGED ON NOVEMBER 1, 1946. RECEIVED THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER RIBBON, PHILIPPINE LIBERATION RIBBON, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (JAPAN), LAPEL BUTTON ISSUED, 2 OVERSEAS SERVICE BARS. HE ALSO SERVED IN KOREA.
