Terrence Lomax, fifth child, was born in Rockingham Co, NC about 1753. He removed to Abbeville Co, SC, and after locating there, married Sarah Short. He died Sept 3, 1825. They had 3 children: a. Aaron b. Seaborn & c. Maria

Sarah Short Lomax died Sept 13, 1812 in Holmes Co, MS, to which place they had removed from Abbeville Co.

Terrence married 2nd, Mrs Martha Crews and they had 4 children: Sidney, James Avery, Dorothy and Tillman. All of the children of Terrence Lomax were born in Abbeville County, SC

James Avery Lomax (1816) was born in Abbeville County in 1816. After his father’s death in 1825, young Avery Lomax and his mother went to a farm owned by William Bell-she had lost her own home place in some way-and the nine year old boy helped Mr Bell with the plowing while two older brothers of Avery Lomax, Sydney and Tillman Lomax, “thinned the cotton by hand.” That, it must be remembered was in 1825. The next year, the family moved again and the 4 older boys were hired to a neighbor at an annual wage of $25 and board. He does not give the name of his employer but is must have been his future father-in-law, for he goes on to say that he worked for Israel Holt in Laurens County who had a tannery; that he learned the tanning business and 4 years later, he married his employer’s daughter, Mary Holt, of Laurens County.

Some of his brothers had already located in Mississippi and so, in 1846, he and his family left South Carolina for Mississippi and the first year he worked for his brother, Tillman Lomax. Later, he bought a place of his own and worked hard and saved his money. He had cash and slaves when War began and this was a total loss as he put his cash in Confederate money and the slaves were set free. In 1869, he removed to Texas and after some years got on his feet again; left several children.

Sydney Lomax, brother of James Avery, married Matilda Moniac and had a son,Tillman Lomax who married Minnie Keller had 4 daughters and lived in Alabama.
