Mrs. Mary Chilton Witty, 86, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Lance Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior, from 1:00 PM till 2:00 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mary was born May 14, 1930 in Rockingham County to the late Henry Chilton and Lola Boyd Chilton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her hobbies included crocheting, playing the piano and going out to eat. She retired from the American Tobacco Company after 42 years.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Witty and her son, James Timothy Witty; brothers: William Chilton, Calvin Chilton, Gilmer Chilton, James Chilton, Alfred Chilton and Clayton Chilton; and sisters: Betty Dixon, Mildred Grogan, Merl Hudson and Mae French.

Survivors include her children: Walter Witty, Jr. of Greensboro and Cathy Soyars and husband, Carl of Ruffin; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
