Thomas J. Montgomery IV, 90, of Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Kingston, Ill., died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

Born Nov. 30, 1916, near Malta, he was the son of Thomas J. Montgomery III and Effie (Pooler) Montgomery. He married Edna Lee on July 3, 1939; after her death, he married Geraldine (Dissinger) Montgomery in 1973.

Tom was an area carpenter for many years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Genoa, Genoa Masonic Lodge, Sycamore OES, DeKalb Commandery and Sycamore RAM, and he was a 50-year member of local carpenter's unions, 826 in Sycamore and then 965 in DeKalb, where he was a business agent. Tom also was a former Boy Scout Master for the Kingston troop.

He is survived by a son, Thomas J. (Janis Redpath) Montgomery V of Genoa; a daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Jones of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three stepsons, Donald Montgomery of Evansville, Ind., David (Shirla) Montgomery of Mattoon and Neil (Patricia) Montgomery of Lacon; a stepdaughter, Diane Schlosser of Sycamore; two sisters, Mildred Kissel of Wauwautosa, Wis., and Ila Piske of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Edna, in 1967, and Geraldine, in 2004; a sister, Ethel Berg; and a brother, Floyd Montgomery.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Cooper-Quiram Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel F. Diss officiating. Interment will be at Kingston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the funeral home, followed by a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
