Bayard Lee Stanaback, known as "Stan" Stanaback, age 79, of East Tawas (Wilber Township) passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Lake Orion, the son of Bayard Stanaback and Evelyn Stanaback. On April 30, 1960, he married Donna Dallmann at Cedar Crest Lutheran Church.
Stan retired from General Motors in Pontiac in 1986 after being with the company for 28 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to East Tawas from Lapeer in 1990. He served during the Korean War for four years with the rank of sergeant first class.
He was a life member of both the VFW and American Legion posts in Oscoda, a member of the Tawas Elks Lodge No. 2525 and the Tawas Masonic Lodge No. 274. Stan loved gardening, ice fishing, traveling and woodworking.
Surviving was his wife of 49 years, Donna Stanaback. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey David Stanaback, on Jan. 31, 2002.
