An obituary is on file at the Sally Ploof Hunter Memorial Library located in the village of Black River, New York.THE VILLAGES — John D. Cox, 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012.

He was born in Watertown, NY, and moved to The Villages in 2003. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Watertown. He was a general manager of General Crushed Stone and retired in 1997. John was a town justice for the town of LeRay from 1978 until 2003. During his years as a town justice he served on the Board of New York State Magistrates, serving as president for 2002. He was also an active member of the Jefferson County Magistrates Board, serving in several leadership positions.

John enjoyed boating the St. Lawrence River, NASCAR, traveling and marrying couples as part of his magistrate duties. He also enjoyed golf and his part-time courier job for Citizens First Bank after moving to Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two stepchildren Casey E., Brooklyn, NY, and Andrew Jr., Watertown, NY; two nieces; and great-nieces and nephews.

There are no funeral plans at this time. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

He was a General Manager of General Crushed Stone and retired in 1997. This position was previously held by his father and grandfather, dating back to Watertown Stone Products.
