Orville E. Adams, one of Wetmore's highly respected citizens, passed away at his home in Wetmore from a heart attack while preparing to leave for his duties early in the morning, Wednesday, Jan. 26, 1949.
Mr. Adams was born in Victor, Mitchell county, Kansas, Feb. 9, 1901, and was nearing his 48th birthday. He was united in marriage to Florene Hilton and two sons and two daughters were born to this union: Mrs. Norman Levick, Topeka; Richard Adams, Baton Rouge, La.; Donald H. Adams, Wetmore, and Micheline Jo, three years old, of the home. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adams and a sister, Mrs. Raymond Fasse of Junction City, Kans.
Mr. Adams and family came to Wetmore several years ago from Superior, Neb., where he had been engaged in railroad work, and he took charge of the railroad as maintainer foreman here, a position he held up to his death. He was fond of his family and took active part in civic improvement, the Masonic Lodge and Episcopal church.
Mr. Adams will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and many friends.
Services were held at the Grace Episcopal church Friday afternoon. David E. Seaboldt was the officiating clergyman. A vested choir furnished the singing, with Miss Ina Katherine Roderick at the organ.
Pallbearers were chosen from his Masonic brothers and were Roy Wade, R. L. Hart, Charles Schaffer, Jesse Clowe, Owen Spicher, Donald Cordon. Owing to the cold weather, the Masonic burial service was given at the church, led by Ollie Woodman of Holton. Burial was in the Wetmore cemetery.
The Fortnightly club members served the noon meal and lunch to relatives after the funeral.
