William “Bill” Cheesman, 96 of Charlestown, IN passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Baptist Health of Floyd in New Albany, IN.

Bill was a native of Economy, IN born on June 3, 1920 the son of Carl and Madge Cheesman. He was a WW II Navy Veteran, served aboard the Aircraft Carrier U. S. Ticonderoga (CV-14). Retired after 33 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville, KY and later with T.V. and Electronics Repair Service. He was a member of Charlestown Church of God, life member and past commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #1427 of Charlestown, American Legion Post #335 Charlestown, active member of the American Legion Color/Honor Guard, Big “T” Veterans Association, Loyal Order of the Moose in Sellersburg Lodge # 1757, AARP and past member of the Charlestown Optimist Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Jan Barrett(Jim) of Charlestown; Grandchildren, Pam McCoy(Steve), Christy Baker(John), Stephanie Boseker(Chad); great-grandchildren, , Kristen Moore, Amber Moore, Andrea McCoy, Matthew McCoy, Mary Baker, Abigail Baker, Lauren Baker, Zachary Boseker, Hayden Boseker; great-great-grandchild, Kylie Ray Lewellen;brother, Fred Cheesman of New Castle, IN; his longtime companion Suzanne Murphy; son-in-law, Roger McVicker.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Dora Cheesman; second wife Madeline Inman Cheesman; daughter Mary Rose McVicker; brothers, Richard, Percy, John and Thomas Cheesman; sister, Rosemary Clotiaux.

Bill had a good life throughout all his years. He was so proud of his wonderful families and many friends. Expressions in memory of Bill may take the form of donations to the Charlestown American Legion Honor Guard.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12 Noon to 8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 9:00 A.M. Friday until the time of services.
