Lester E. White, Sr., 71 of Carlyle, passed away at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Mr. White was born in St. Louis on May 3, 1945, a son of Lester G. and Rintha E. (Riley) White. He married Donna Burcham on February 29, 1996, and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife Donna, Mr. White is also survived by his children – Lester E. White, Jr. and wife Martina of Granite City, Christina "Tina" Graham and husband James of Granite City, Doretta "Dodie" Cluck and husband Chris of Carlyle, Angie Elaine Close and husband Loren of Glen Carbon, and Roni Lyn Mwenelupembe of Edwardsville; his grandchildren – Zachary, Sarah, Jacob, Maria, Jared, Michael, Haley, David, Madalyn, Ashlyn, Brooklyn, Chelsea, Ashley, Blake, Stephanie, Kellie, Parker, Katy, Ian, Donna Grace, Jessie, Gerald Allen, and Lavarr; 15 Great Grandchildren; his mother-in-law – Doretta Landers of Camden, Tennessee; and a brother-in-law – Kenneth Phillips of Carlyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Lester G. and Rintha White; a sister – Esther Phillips; and his father-in-law – Sidney Burcham.
Lester owned White's Used Auto Sales in Madison for 40 years until he retired to care for his mother. He was a military police officer in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968 and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He volunteered as a Madison Auxiliary Police officer. Mr. White was a life member of VFW Post 3523 in Carlyle and was Past Commander and a charter member of VFW Post 7451 in Madison, a member of the AMVETS, and a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America in St. Louis.
A funeral service will be held at Wisetown Baptist Church south of Greenville at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, April 13, 2017, with Rev. Tom Rankin, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Zieren Funeral Home and on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at Wisetown Baptist Church.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. White are suggested to Paralyzed Veterans of America and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
