Shirley was born in Forsyth County on May 3, 1936, to the late Margaret Pate and Arthur Brendle. She lived her whole life in Forsyth County. Shirley worked at Forsyth Medical Center as a CNA for many years. She was a long time member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flower gardens. Shirley was known for her outgoing personality and love of her community.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Vanhoy; a son, Mitchell Vanhoy; a granddaughter Rachel Stoddart and Matthew; a sister, Frances Floyd; and many extended family and friends.
