Frances was born to Henry and Margaret (Brunk) Alvesteffer on September 11, 1917 in Eden Township. The family moved to Ludington where she attended St. Simon Elementary and High schools.
After high school she attended County Normal and then taught at Tallman School. She went on to work at Montgomery Wards as a bookkeeper. During that time she met Keith Adams and they were married on June 26, 1947.
In 1949 they moved to Fountain where Keith was Postmaster and they raised their 3 daughters. She served as Township Clerk, owned and operated an antique and used furniture store, and was a member of the Mason County Historical Society. Her many interests included gardening, genealogy, reading and listening to music.
Following Keith’s retirement they enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends around the country. In 1990 they moved to Ludington. They were married for 50 years until Keith’s death in 1997.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Richard) Riisberg of Kaleva, Anne Adams of Ludington, Sara (Michael) Glass of Rapid River; niece, Susan Ritchie; nephews, Stephen and Michael Kibbey, and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother George Alvesteffer, sisters, Sister Mary Alvesteffer, Rita Johnson, Kahleen Alvesteffer, Pauline Kibbey, and nephew, Lewis Johnson.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church with visitation starting at 10. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m, at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Ludington.
Memorials may be directed to Mason County Historical Society, St. Simon Food Pantry or the charity of the donor’s choice.
