29 January 1979 obituary, The Pantagraph, Bloomington, Illinois, Monday, page 25: J. Arnel Garretson, Cornell. J. Arnel Garretson, 71, of 402 Johnson St., a retired farmer and a former road commissioner in the Cornell area, died at 1:54 a.m. Sunday at his home. He had been ill several years. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev. Gordon Peabody officiating. Burial will be in Cornell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight.

He was born July 23, 1907, near Cornell, a son of James A. and Hannah Gamblin Garretson. He married Harriet Partridge Aug. 17, 1929, in Kankakee. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Ruth Leach, Graymont; Jane Erschen, Pontiac, and Alice Raber, Flanagan; a brother, Howard, Cornell, and seven grandchildren. A son, 3 brothers and 5 sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Garretson, a road commissioner 12 years, was a member of Cornell First United Methodist Church.
