MADISON - Charles R. Ambrosavage, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014. He was born on Oct. 2, 1917, in New Philadelphia, PA, the son of Lithuanian immigrants John and Anastasia (Stelgieute) Ambrosavage. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in June of 1941, and served with the 319th Bomber Group during World War II in North Africa, Sardinia, and Italy. After returning from the war, he enrolled in the University of Wisconsin on the GI Bill and graduated in 1948. He married Miss Ethel Lee Sept. 2, 1950. They were the parents of seven children. For 35 years Charles worked at American Family Insurance. He was a great adventurer - he loved maps and traveling. After retiring, he and Ethel continued to travel, and lived in England for a time. He loved golfing, bowling, but most of all spending time with his family. Charles is survived by six children and their families, including one grandson; sisters, Helen Darinsig and Anna (Dave) Lombardi; and a brother, Joseph (Joan) Ambrosavage, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Jean Ambrosavage; and three brothers, Andrew, John and Bernard Ambrosavage. Funeral Services held at GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 116 West Washington Avenue, Madison on Monday, January 13, 2014 with Rev. Dr. D. Jonathan Grieser officiating. Graveside services will follow at Liberty Church Cemetery in Deerfield. Cress Funeral Home assisted the family.
