Pat continued her love of art by painting and gardening. In the early 1960s she won awards for her pastels artwork. Meanwhile, she reared six rambunctious sons, often while her husband served overseas. In typical Navy fashion, the family moved frequently -- at various times living in Atlanta, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; Boston, Massachusetts; Panama City, Florida; and Norfolk, Virginia -- eventually settling in Virginia Beach.
Brought up a Catholic, Pat became a born-again Christian in 1972 and subsequently volunteered as a counselor for the Christian Broadcast Network. In Virginia Beach she was active in the Open Door Chapel (which she faithfully attended until 2013), the Kingston Garden Club, Meals on Wheels, and multiple bridge groups.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one son Robert Caleb "Buddy" Brown, her husband Lt. Commander, Ret. James Edwin Brown, her younger sister Sarah Ann "Sallie" (Allen) Eads, and her younger brother Albert Joseph "Buddy" Allen. She is survived by her youngest brother, Michael Joseph Allen and his wife Janet of St. Paul, Minnesota, and by five sons: James Allen Brown (Emily) of Howell, Michigan, Thomas Christopher Brown (Melody) of Virginia Beach, Steven Ross Brown (Lynda) of Richmond, Virginia, William Randall "Randy" Brown (Nina) of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Michael Clark "Cokie" Brown (Cathy) of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Pat will be inurned at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, on a date to be determined. "Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come" (Proverbs 31:25).
