Mr. Chafin was born in Rockledge and had lived most of his life in Savannah.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzy and Louise Johnson Chafin, wife, Ellen Gray Chafin, brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Martha Chafin.  He served four years in the United States Air Force during which time he served as Boy Scout Master on the Island of Kwajalein in the Mariana Islands, South Pacific.  He was an Eagle Scout and also served as Scout Master in Soperton for a number of years.  He was retired from CSX Railroad, Savannah, after thirty-seven years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church, Pooler. 
Survivors include his children, Jeff (Cindy) Chafin of Rincon, Greg (Cathy) Chafin of Pooler, and Steve (Jenny) Chafin of Fernandina Beach, FL; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Carlton) Farmer of Vienna; brother, Jimmy (Sarah) Chafin of East Dublin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, at 11 o’clock Tuesday, April 11, with Elder Paul Thomas officiating.  Burial will be in Thigpen Cemetery, Rockledge, with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jim Pullen, John Pullen, Joey Chafin, Lonny Chafin, Blake Cover, and Mathew Hart.
